Democracy project – minutes 8th April 2009

Christe might not go to college next year, so she might be around to help a lot.

1. Meeting with Politicians
Meeting in Hotel with Barry Andrews, Timmy Dooley and Pat Hayes Alan, Mieke, Sophie, Rowan and Bonnie were present.
It went well although no money available. The main objective was to present ourselves and create good P.R.
Pat Hayes also present. He is very interested in Fishbowl in general. Went for coffee with him afterwards.
He asked us to meet him again within next week.
2. P.R.
- Articles for Clare People, Scariff news, Mountshannon news etc.- about project and Fishbowl in general
- Megan will write article and forward it to group for proof reading
- Has to be written by 1st May
3. Workshops
Will be held in May and September in all three schools

· Introduction to EVS in Youthreach?
September:

4. Presentation for schools
- 40 minutes (approximately the length of one class)
- What is it about?
- Photos from Italians
Christe and Catherine will work together to make presentation on “PowerPoint”.
Decided that projection to be used as more of a “background” i.e. two or more people will be there talking, explaining and answering questions.

Mieke will facilitate an exercise about democracy
5 Logo competition
(points to consider)
- Represent democracy project or democracy?
- schools
- combine with Italian logo
Decision made that logo should represent project rather then theme. Slogan can also be entered in competition
Can also represent schools and youth in general rather then specific schools or people.
Options for design of hoodie include combined logo (Italian and Irish) on front and back, Irish logo on front and Italian on back (and/or vice versa)
To be decided depending on final logo/slogan
This outline to be given to students as optional/preferably
6. Tasks to be completed
By next meeting
- Talk to schools to organize dates for May workshops.

Democracy Project – Minutes 15 March 2009
Present: Alan, Christe, Catherine, Megan, Mieke
Agenda:
1. Defining roles and tasks for all involved

1. Roles and time available:
Alan:
Will have time to help out during the project, but he is getting back into a job, so he will not always be available.
Will mainly be involved with PR and marketing the idea and project. He will be n contact with official people, and set up connections with newspapers and radio etc.
He needs to be at meetings in order to know what is going on, and would like to be part of the overall vision for the documentary, so that he can utilise it for PR purposes
Christe:
Christe is doing her assignments for Alfa until the beginning of May and is very busy. She will be able to do some tasks and to come to meetings. After May she will have more time.
She is not sure what she will be doing after September, but it looks like she will be studying in Galway. She will be back home for the weekends and wants to stay involved all through the project.
Main interests: administration, peer education, holding the vision and anything that might come up.
Catherine:
Is not sure what she will be doing next year. She hopes to be able to help out as much as possible, but it depends on what she chooses to do.
Main interest: contact with Youthreach, documentary, peer education, admin, and whatever comes up during meetings.
Megan:
Will be doing her leaving cert next year, so will have time in the first few months, but will be busy after January.
Main interests:
Contact with woodford mercy college, peer education.
Mieke:
Will have time during the entire project, except when away for work…
Main interest: general support, overview of the project, link between Léargas and participants, I know what they expect and will ultimately hold overall responsibility.
Facilitate workshops
Will help participants to take as much ownership over the project as possible.
2. Application:
· Christe will ask Martina for itinerary
· Mieke will finish the report
· Megan and Catherine will tell their schools that project has been approved and that we will send a confirmation letter as soon as we have the contracts signed.
· Catherine will write the above letter, send it to Christe and Megan for comments and then to Mieke.
· Mieke will send headed paper to all.
· Mieke will finish the final report for the feasibility meeting and send it together with the paperwork needed to Léargas.
3. Task by task/blow by blow…
· Meetings: we will try to have them every second week, next one will be 22 March at 11 o’clock. But this will be changed as it will clash with the massage workshop… L
· Catherine will be writing the minutes for now
· Text Catherine and Megan when we send an important email, as she does not always check mail.
4. Next meeting
· How will we choose participants?
· Who will we do the May workshop for?
· How many people can we choose, suggested:
