National Youth Council of Ireland
Development Education Exchange Visit 2009
Ireland – Zambia
CALL FOR PARTICIPANTS
Rationale
The National Youth Council of Ireland (NYCI) Development Education Programme is a partnership between NYCI and Irish Aid which supports youth organisations to mainstream development education in their organisations’ programmes and activities. While many of the values underpinning development education are shared with good youth work practice, practical overseas development experience can enhance youth work practitioners’ commitment and contribution to the promotion of development education in their own organisations and in the sector generally.
What?
NYCI is organising an exchange visit for youth workers from NYCI member organisations to Zambia in southern Africa. During the visit, they will meet with youth organisations and development agencies, share experiences of youth work and learn about issues facing young people in Zambia. The visit will be followed by a visit by Zambian youth workers to Ireland to coincide with One World Week 2009 which takes place from the 14th – 22nd November.
NYCI gratefully acknowledges the support of 80:20 Educating and Acting for a Better World in organising the exchange.
The organisations that send participants will participate in relevant One World Week activities and engage with the Zambian youth workers during their visit to Ireland.
NYCI will cover the cost of travel to Zambia, transfers in-country, accommodation and subsistence. Participants and/or their organisations will cover the cost of vaccinations and health/travel insurance. Proof of vaccinations and insurance will be sought prior to travel.
When?
The Irish group will travel to Zambia for approximately ten days in the weeks starting 28th September – 11th October 2009 and the Zambian groups will visit Ireland will coincide with One World Week from the 14th – 22nd November 2009 (Specific dates TBC).
